I was born in Vegas in 1939 and lived there for over forty years. I remember going to the Round-Up Drive-in, Wings Chinese Restaurant off Fremont St.,having a Chinese Cheeseburger at the White Cross Drug Store on East Fremont and Remember going to Blackets Drive in and riding the bumper cars at the Sliver Slipper.

All us who were teenagers in the 50's have great memories of Sill's drive in, Last Frontier Village, and the Thunderbird (where Louie Prima & Keeley Smith performed in the lounge)& we went after the prom to the Midnight Floor shows.

We moved to Las Vegas in 1940. Boy what a difference now. Loved the old days going to 5th street grammar school, then Las Vegas High School, class of '53.
Great times, never to be forgotten!

The first radio station in Southern Nevada was Max Kelch's KENO AM on 1400 AM. It, later, did a frequency swap for 1460 AM. KSNP now holds 1400 AM. They didn't realize they have this first frequency in southern Nevada.
There was an AM frequency held in 1928 in Las Vegas but nothing is known about it.
One of the first shows on KENO 1400 AM was called, "The Ronzoni's Are On The Air." I had a newspaper ad for it.

What about the Flame Lounge downstairs from a laundromat or drug store on the strip near the Desert Inn. Wasn't it owned by Tempest Storm for awhile?

Hamburger Heaven on the west side had the best apple turnovers. Taco Factory on Rancho and Bonanza. What about Grand Central that became Zodys on Decatur and Obannon? Can't remember the name of that huge pink? box store that went out of business that was on Decatur and Charleston where Super Walmart now sits. Huntridge theatre ..also a favorite. Does anyone remember when Bill Ladd owner or the Silver Dollar Saloon presented a concert in the ice skating rink ( I think it was the Chrystal Palace) in 1973?
Headliners were Waylan Jennings and Johnny Paycheck among others.
The house band was Don Holiman with Bob Mccormick on steel guitar and Joe McGinnis on Bass.
This event was televised and I am searching for a copy if one exist.

The Scotch Eighties, McNeil Estates, Glen Heather those were the neighborhoods I grew up in. The Yankee Drive-in, on Charleston just west of I15, great taquitos. Someone mentioned the El Cholo on 5th street between Garces and Bonneville, by the far the best Mexican Food in town. First job was at Poppa Gars as a busboy in 8th grade, later worked at The Sands Hotel Pool summer of 75 and 76, best days of my life. Las Vegas Transit .15 cents to anywhere in town. The Go Karts at the Hacienda Hotel. Watching Muhammad Ali train for a fight against Jerry Quarry at Caesars Palace. My friend and I would watch the training session and then smoke cigars on Cleopatra's Barge in the middle of the day when no one was there. I was 12,13. The Food Factory on Bonanza and Rancho next to Larry's Villa.
