What is the Friends of Classic Las Vegas?

The Friends of Classic Las Vegas is a historical preservation group dedicated to the enlightment and preservation of Las Vegas history, buildings and landmarks.

How do you differ from other Preservation Groups? 

The Friends of Classic Las Vegas is pleased to be part of a growing awareness to the need of historical preservation in Las Vegas.  We are forming important alliances with the other preservation groups in the Valley.  

In addition to raising awareness on preservation issues throughout the Las Vegas Valley, the FCLV also works to preserve the history, memories and images of 20th Century Las Vegas.  Our historian, Lynn Zook, records video oral histories with native born and long time residents, helping to insure that their stories and their memorabilia are not lost to history.  In addition, the FCLV is a key sponsor of the Classic Las Vegas Roadshow, a historical Roundtable series that brings long-time residents out to talk about the history that they made.

Are you a non-profit? 

Yes, the Friends of Classic Las Vegas is a recognized, local 501c3 non-profit organization. 

How do I become a member? 

There are two ways you can become a member of the Friends of Classic Las Vegas.  You can join on-line here or you can send your tax-deductible check, made payable to the Friends of Classic Las Vegas to:

Your membership is tax-deductible.

Do you have meetings? 

Yes, we meet (usually) the first Sunday of each month.  If there is a conflict with the first Sunday, we schedule the meeting for the second Sunday.   Information on where and when the meetings are held can be found here .

Once you become a member, you will receive reminders each month via postcard and email. 

Can I make a donation to the Friends of Classic Las Vegas without becoming a member?

While we encourage everyone to become a member of the group, we understand that schedules and locations do not always allow for that, so if you would prefer to make a donation to help us with our Preservation Efforts, you can make a tax-deductible donation one of two ways:

How can I find out more information about the history of Las Vegas?

We encourage you to explore and read this site.  Our historian, Lynn Zook, who grew up in Las Vegas and has been working with us to help preserve the history of our town, adds to this site almost daily.  In addition to the articles, there are photo galleries featuring historical photographs of Las Vegas.  There is also a history of Fremont Street and a current on-going series on history of the Las Vegas Strip.
