I am forever changed from that morning. So many things make no sense to me still. Why were firemen not speaking spanish and telling the inhouse guests help was on the way? Why was communication so poor
in the Hotel? I could not use the Watts line to call the Fire Department. I of course was
questioned by 12 attornies who argued that we had no alarms on the third floor. I worked there and can say, Yes we did. Why were exit doors chained shut? I still can smell the smoke to this day. I can still see the faces cut of guests from fallen glass. I can still tell you how many coworkers I lost that morning and where there bodies were found. I do know there were a lot of bad choices made,
from previous fire inspections. Who is to blame
I will never know. I just watched several shows about the fire and really hope that the men who signed my checks every 2 weeks would
never not upgrade due to endangering any Hotel guests. Sometimes I feel like I still work there and have to defend them. The show I just watched even credited Bally's for having the safest hotel. MGM put in the JC80 in 1983 or 84, not Bally's. MGM took great care and costs to protect their inhouse guests and employees. Thank You for allowing me to vent. I am sure not many people would understand unless you worked there.

Chris Richardson comments on Popular Las Vegas attorney, James "Bucky" Buchanan unexpectedly dies

This is so tragic to me. I am a recent graduate from law school and I once contacted Bucky's office to tell him that I loved his reality show and told him that I wanted to be just like him. His response was " Be better than me sweetheart, and come out and see me when your done". I am truly saddended. Just devastated. May he RIP! We met in first grade and went to school together for 12 years in Charleroi, Pa., worked together in the summers at Chataqua and raised more hell than any two teenagers. They are not doing any environmental or engineering work in California. DesertXpress goes 200 miles into California with its first phase with a future extension only 50 miles west to Palmdale connecting to all of California with Metrolink and the CA HSR system.

There is no money available or approved to build the proposed maglev. You can read more details "Transportation secretary: Gibbons ‘not accurate’ in noting maglev earmark" http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/sep/23/transportation-secretary-gibbons-not-accurate-noti/

Maglev reportedly applied for $12 billion in federal stimulus funds when there is only $8 billion for high speed rail in the entire country. There is no way the Maglev can be profitable at $12B of capital costs and even that huge number is a fraction of what public agencies have estimated it will really cost. Three public agencies considering maglev completed independent studies that pegged its cost at $100 to $200 million per mile – which would make it $26 to $52 billion – not $13 billion. Also there are no existing safety standards in the US for Maglev, this could take years to develop and get approved. The German government, whose taxpayers paid for the development of the maglev technology, has completely abandoned the technology in favor of more high speed rail. The Chinese Government decided not to extend the short (19-mile) line feeding Shanghai Airport; instead, they are building the world’s largest high speed rail network.

Nikita comments on Dr. Lonnie Cancels Annual Nevada Day Open House

Thank you for letting us know!
I've been searching for the announcement this year and didn't find it anywhere.
Sad, was gonna come over with friends. :(

Michael comments on U2 Rocks Las Vegas

If the U2 of February 1983 met the U2 of 2009, the younger version would have to kick the old guys' ass. This is the band that wrote "New Years Day" and "Bullet the Blue Sky". Bono was once "Bono Vox" (Voice of the People). The Edge was once actually edgy and non nerf-like. Now only those "people" with $400 can get close enough to see them without the aid of a big screen. Their Meccas used to be Enniskillen and Red Rocks in the rain. Now it's Las Vegas. No disrespect to my hometown, but Larry Mullen Jr. is the only member of the band to have kept any sense of self respect of any kind. Shame. I was going to go, but I could not see myself standing next to anyone who would pay $400 to see U2. Stay at home. Watch "Under a Blood Red Sky." To quote the immortal Randy Newman: "It's money that I love."
